Longest & Shortest Word Finder
Discover the extremes of your vocabulary with our Word Length Analyzer. This tool quickly scans any text to identify and list the top 10 longest and shortest unique words used. It's a fun and insightful tool for writers looking to vary their word choice, students analyzing texts, or anyone curious about the lexical characteristics of a piece of writing.
How It Works
Our analyzer provides a straightforward and immediate analysis of your text's word lengths. The process is simple and updates in real-time.
- Enter Your Text: Paste your content into the main editor.
- Set Your Options: Choose whether to filter out common "stop words" to focus on more significant terms.
- View the Results: Instantly see two lists displaying the longest and shortest unique words found in your text, complete with character counts.
Key Features
- Dual Word Lists: The tool simultaneously generates two clear lists:
- Longest Words: The top 10 longest unique words, sorted from longest to shortest.
- Shortest Words: The top 10 shortest unique words, sorted from shortest to longest.
- Detailed Length Information: Each word in the result lists is accompanied by its precise character count (e.g., `extraordinary (13 chars)`), providing clear data at a glance.
- Unique Word Analysis: The analysis is performed on a set of unique words, meaning a word is only counted once regardless of how many times it appears in the text. This gives a true representation of vocabulary range.
- Stop Word Filtering: An option to exclude common, low-impact English words (like 'the', 'is', 'a', 'and'). Enabling this helps you focus the analysis on more substantive and meaningful words in your text.
- Live Mode: A toggle that enables real-time analysis. When active, the word lists update instantly as you type or edit your text.
- Session Persistence: Your text is automatically saved in your browser, so you can refresh the page or return later without losing your work.
